Whether you're just starting your DoorDash journey or looking to sharpen your gig game, these $mart Gig Tips are your go-to guide for making smarter moves on the road.
My husband and I have been full-time dashers since 2021, and recently started traveling the country to live the gig life on the road, and we’ve learned a thing or two (okay, a lot) from the miles, mistakes, and wins. That’s why we put together this quick list of beginner-friendly tips to help you earn more — and stress less.
β The 5 $mart Gig Tips Every New Dasher Should Know
1. Aim for at least $1 per mile
Declining low-paying, long-distance orders is key. If it doesn’t make sense on gas and time, don’t take it. If we receive a double offer, it must be $1.50 per mile if from the same store and $2 per mile if from different stores.
2. Set a minimum — and stick to it
Decide what’s worth it before your shift starts. Know your worth! We personally will not take any order under $4 (but the $4 offers MUST be under a mile--- these orders are typical during lunch and a lot of times you'll be driving back and forth across the street)
3. Fill up before you dash
Fuel up early so you’re not scrambling mid-shift (or paying more when prices spike).
4. Don’t forget the slow times
Lulls happen. Keep snacks, park near hot zones, and use downtime to plan or take a break.
5. Treat your dash like a business
Track everything — miles, earnings, expenses. It adds up, especially at tax time.
